Descending a mountain to climb it again

Large format drawing installation
Charcoal, graphite and color pencil on paper and tracing paper
Variable dimensions from 180x 200 cm

2021-2022

This installation of drawings unfolds in space the desire of a disobedient journey made as a high altitude mountaineer in the region of northern Patagonia. A self-designed path between two distant points through two different countries to articulate a new map and a time of its own.
The journey was made for eighteen consecutive days in the high Andean mountains with the minimum resources to leave almost no trace of this transit. The physical and mental difficulties of adapting to the different ecosystemic layers were endured as a useless enterprise, with no utilitarian profit, and formed part of the walk as an aesthetic-political praxis. Contrary to the rules established by the National Parks, the route was done without guides or GPS, following alternative paths, and referenced on some orally testimonies by other mountaineers. The drawing-logbook of the journey articulates the narrative assembled in the graphic sequences, which consist of both documentary moments and dreams perceived under the stars.
