Woollen lungs

One of the poems in the book says:

«I want to spread out my lungs in the yard
And let them dry
To wrap myself in them»

I drew the lungs as if I had crocheted them, thinking that this minimal object is what makes the vitality of our life and mobility in art – the title of the book is, in fact, «Minimal, vital and mobile». I took into account not only the concept of the poem and the book, but also the handmade printing technique, which makes use of a minerva machine on which the metal movable type and clichés are mounted, the latter made ad hoc. The technique and finish of my drawing (blacks and whites, clear and contrasted, closed forms) facilitated its transfer to the cliché.
The typography that I created by hand was also transferred to movable types.

Uno de los poemas del libro dice así:
“Quiero desplegar mis pulmones en el patio
Y dejarlos secar
Para abrigarme con ellos”

Dibujé los pulmones como si los hubiera tejido al crochet pensando que ese objeto mínimo es lo que hace a la vitalidad de nuestra vida y la mobilidad en el arte – el título del libro es, de hecho, “Mínimo, vital y móvil”. Tuve en cuenta no sólo el concepto del poema y del libro, sino la técnica de impresión artesanal, la cual se vale de una máquina minerva en la que se montan los tipos móviles metálicos y clisés , elaborados estos últimos ad hoc. La técnica y acabado de mi dibujo (negros y blancos netos y contrastados, formas cerradas) facilitó su traspaso al clisé.
La tipografía que realicé a mano también fue traspasada a tipos móviles.
